Job summary

Optima UK in Leicester is seeking an experienced Bench Hand Joiner to join the workshop team. You will manufacture, assemble and finish bespoke retail furniture and display units from technical drawings and specifications.

You will operate a wide range of woodworking machinery and hand tools, read drawings, and maintain safety and quality standards while collaborating with designers and project managers to ensure timely delivery of projects.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Bench Hand Joiner or similar role in manufacturing or shopfitting.
• Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and cutting lists.
• Competent in the safe use of woodworking machinery, power tools and hand tools.
• Full UK Driving Licence is beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Manufacture, assemble and finish bespoke retail furniture and display units from drawings and specifications.
• Operate woodworking machinery and hand tools, including saws, routers, planers and sanders.
• Work with hardwood, MDF, laminates and solid surfaces.
• Ensure a high-quality finish on joinery work with attention to detail.
• Collaborate with designers and project managers to interpret drawings and complete projects.
• Assist in assembly and fittings with occasional on-site support.
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop in line with Health & Safety standards.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of workshop processes and efficiency.

Location: Leicester and Hinckley
Shift: 8am to 4.30pm Monday to Thursday
Pay Rate: £15.00 to £18.50 per hour DOE

Key Responsibilities

• Manufacture, assemble and finish bespoke retail furniture and display units from technical drawings and specifications
• Operate a wide range of woodworking machinery and hand tools, including saws, routers, planers and sanders

• Ensure a high-quality finish on all joinery work, maintaining attention to detail and craftsmanship standards
• Collaborate with designers, project managers and other joiners to ensure accurate interpretation of drawings and timely completion of projects
• Participate in assembly and fitting of units within the workshop, with occasional support for on-site installations
• Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment in line with Health & Safety standards
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of workshop processes and production efficiency

Key Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as a Bench Hand Joiner or similar role within a manufacturing or shopfitting environment
• Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and cutting lists
• Competent in the safe use of woodworking machinery, power tools and hand tools
• High level of craftsmanship, accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Excellent time management and organisation skills
• Commitment to maintaining quality standards and safe working practices
• Full UK Driving Licence (beneficial but not essential)
