Job summary

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch is seeking a calm and committed Behaviour Support Worker to work with a school in Wakefield (WF1). You will provide practical and emotional support to pupils needing guidance with behaviour, relationships and engagement.

Responsibilities include individualised support, building trusting relationships, helping pupils manage emotions, and supporting re-engagement with learning. Applicants should have a DBS check or be willing to apply.

Qualifications

• Experience in supporting children or young people with behavioural needs is encouraged.
• Experience in education, youth work, pastoral care or a similar setting would be beneficial.
• Patient, empathetic and non-judgemental approach.
• Confidence when responding to challenging behaviour.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills is must for a Behaviour Support Worker.
• Ability to remain calm and consistent under pressure.
• Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to apply.
• Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualised support to pupils experiencing behavioural or emotional difficulties.
• Build trusting and positive relationships with students.
• Encourage pupils to recognise and manage their emotions appropriately.
• Support students in developing positive behaviours and coping strategies.
• Help students re-engage with classroom learning and school routines.
• Work alongside teachers and pastoral staff to support individual behaviour plans.
• Record relevant observations and communicate concerns appropriately.
