Job summary

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch is seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant in Wakefield WF5. You will provide practical and emotional support to pupils with additional needs, helping them access learning and feel included in daily school life.

The role involves one-to-one and small-group support, following guidance from staff, and promoting independence and safeguarding. DBS check required or in process.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people, ideally in SEN or education.
• Ability to build trusting relationships with pupils while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Calm and understanding approach when addressing challenging behaviour.
• Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Enhanced DBS certificate registered on the Update Service, or willingness to complete a new DBS check.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils with SEN.
• Help pupils understand and complete classroom activities.
• Encourage positive communication, social interaction and independence.
• Support pupils with emotional, behavioural or learning difficulties.
• Follow individual support strategies from teaching staff.
• Help create a safe, inclusive environment where pupils feel valued.
• Share observations and updates with teachers and support staff.
