Job summary

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch is hiring a calm and dedicated Behaviour Support Worker to join a Wakefield school (WF1). You will provide targeted behavioural and emotional support to pupils, helping them engage with lessons and school routines.

The role requires empathy, patience, and strong communication, with safeguarding and child protection knowledge. An enhanced DBS on the Update Service is preferred, or a willingness to apply, to ensure safe recruitment.

Qualifications

• Experience in education, youth work, pastoral care or similar setting is beneficial.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply.
• Patient, empathetic and non-judgemental approach.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualised support to pupils experiencing behavioural or emotional difficulties.
• Build trusting and positive relationships with students.
• Encourage pupils to recognise and manage their emotions appropriately.
• Support students in developing positive behaviours and coping strategies.
• Help students re-engage with classroom learning and school routines.
• Work alongside teachers and pastoral staff to support individual behaviour plans.
• Record relevant observations and communicate concerns appropriately.

GSL Education South Yorkshire Branch are seeking a calm and committed Behaviour Support Worker (BSW) to work with a school in Wakefield (WF1). The successful candidate will provide practical and emotional support to pupils who may need additional guidance with behaviour, relationships, engagement and their wider school experience.

As a Behaviour Support Worker, you will:

• Patient, empathetic and non-judgemental approach.
• Confidence when responding to challenging behaviour.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills is must for aBehaviour Support Worker.
• Ability to remain calm and consistent under pressure.
• Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to apply.
• Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
