Job summary

GSL Education are seeking a Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming school in Market Weighton. You will support pupils with behavioural, emotional or social needs during school hours and work closely with teaching and pastoral staff.

You will provide one-to-one and small-group support, help pupils engage with learning, and contribute to a calm, safe learning environment in line with school policies. This role is full-time/term-time with a competitive salary dependent on experience.

Behaviour Teaching Assistant

Location: Market Weighton, East Riding of Yorkshire
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time / Term-time
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Hours: Monday to Friday, school hours 8:00am until 16:00pm

GSL Education are currently seeking a Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive school in the Market Weighton area. This is an exciting opportunity for a caring, resilient and enthusiastic individual who is committed to making a positive difference to pupils' lives.

The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral team to support pupils who may experience behavioural, emotional or social difficulties.

About the Role as a SEMH Teaching Assistant

As a Behaviour Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils who require additional behavioural or emotional support.

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and encourage positive attitudes towards learning.

  • Support pupils in managing their emotions and developing appropriate coping and communication strategies.

  • Promote positive behaviour and help pupils understand the impact of their choices.

  • Assist teachers in maintaining a calm, safe and positive learning environment.

  • Respond calmly and appropriately to challenging behaviour.

  • Follow individual behaviour support plans and school policies.

  • Help pupils re-engage with learning following periods of dysregulation or challenging behaviour.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, SEN staff and external professionals where appropriate.

  • Contribute to the wider life of the school and support pupils' social and emotional development.

  • Previous experience working within a school, youth setting, care environment or supporting children with additional needs would be advantageous, although this is not essential.
