Job summary

Milk Education is seeking a Behaviour Support Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Chester le Street. You'll support pupils to thrive, help create a calm and supportive learning environment, and work closely with teachers to promote positive behaviours and learning progress.

The role involves one-to-one and small-group support, monitoring classroom behaviour, and building trusted relationships with students. Relevant experience and a caring, patient approach are preferred.

Qualifications

  • A Level 2/3 qualification in childcare, education or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
  • Recent experience in a school or education setting preferred.
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm for supporting children's learning.

Behaviour Support Assistant

We are currently seeking a Behaviour Support Assistant to join a welcoming Primary School based in Chester le Street. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys supporting children, building positive relationships, and becoming a familiar and trusted face within a school that values consistency and stability.

This role would suit someone who is passionate about helping pupils thrive and enjoys creating a calm, positive and supportive learning environment.

Main Responsibilities
  • Monitor behaviour in the classroom and encourage positive conduct
  • Support pupils in developing communication, independence and self-management skills
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to learners where needed
  • Encourage and motivate children to engage positively and consistently with their lessons
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Always maintain safeguarding and confidentiality, in line with school policies
Requirements & Skills
  • A Level 2 or 3 qualification in childcare, education or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience (preferred)
  • Recent experience working in a school or education setting (preferred)
  • A positive attitude and genuine enthusiasm for supporting children's learning and development
  • Ability to identify potential triggers or barriers to learning and work proactively to support positive outcomes
  • A nurturing and non-judgemental approach, with a commitment to understanding the individual needs and circumstances of each child
  • A patient, calm and consistent approach when supporting pupils
  • Commitment to helping children develop confidence, resilience, independence and a positive attitude towards learning
