Location: Barnsley
Salary: £460 - £600 per week (depending on experience and qualifications)
Contract Type: Long-term / Temporary, Full-time / Part-time

About the Role:

As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will work alongside subject teachers and pastoral staff to support students across Key Stages 3 and 4. You will help pupils manage challenging situations, stay focused during lessons and move confidently between activities and classes. This is a rewarding opportunity to build positive relationships with young people, encourage better choices and help create the conditions for successful learning.

• Help students manage lesson transitions and navigate the school day positively.
• Encourage respectful interactions, positive decision-making and active participation in learning.
• Monitor behaviour and progress, reporting concerns and relevant observations to teaching and pastoral staff.

Requirements:

• Experience working with secondary-aged children or young people is desirable.
• A confident, calm and consistent approach to managing challenging behaviour.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• The ability to remain patient and professional in difficult situations.
• Confidence working alongside teachers and pastoral teams.
• A genuine commitment to helping young people improve their behaviour and achieve their potential.

To work with GSL Education as a Behaviour Support Assistant, you should:

• Have the right to work in the UK.
• Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last two years.
• Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
