Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join a supportive secondary school in Tameside. You will provide 1:1 and small-group mentoring, helping pupils regulate emotions, build resilience and engage with learning. The role requires patience, calmness under pressure and strong communication within a school team. Immediate start preferred.

Location: Tameside, Hours: 8:30am – 3:45pm, Pay: £105–£115 per day. Relevant experience in SEMH or pastora care is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Experience in secondary schools, behaviour support, youth work, pastoral care, SEMH settings or similar environments is highly beneficial.
  • Candidates with experience supporting young people facing behavioural and emotional challenges are preferred.
  • Ability to maintain boundaries while building trusting relationships with pupils.

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group mentoring and support to pupils.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students.
  • Assist students to regulate emotions and manage challenging situations.
  • Support positive behaviour changes and promote engagement with learning.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff and the school team.
  • Help pupils develop confidence, resilience and independence.

The Role
  • Providing 1:1 and small-group mentoring and support
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
  • Supporting students to regulate their emotions and manage challenging situations
  • Helping pupils understand and make positive changes to their behaviour
  • Encouraging engagement with learning and improving attendance
  • Supporting pupils who may be at risk of disengaging from education
  • Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff and the wider school team
  • Helping pupils develop confidence, resilience and independence
  • De-escalating challenging situations in a calm and professional manner
  • Promoting positive behaviour and maintaining clear boundaries
