Job summary

Education First is recruiting a dedicated Behaviour Mentor for a specialist PRU in Lewisham, starting ASAP. The role focuses on supporting students with SEMH, ASD and ADHD, helping them re-engage with education and develop positive behaviours.

You will work 1:1 and in small groups, liaising with teachers and the pastoral/SEN team to implement individual plans and strategies. Ideal for experienced SEN workers seeking a long-term placement.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with SEN/SEND, SEMH or behavioural needs.
• Experience with SEMH, ASD and ADHD.
• Experience within PRU, alternative provision, SEMH school or SEN school.
• Experience providing 1:1 behavioural, pastoral or emotional support.
• Experience supporting young people who have struggled within mainstream education is advantageous.
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
• Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students.
• Good safeguarding understanding.
• Experience with complex needs, emotional regulation difficulties, anxiety or trauma is advantageous.
• Physical Intervention or Team Teach Training would be highly desirable.

• Support students during challenging or dysregulated situations.
• Help students remain engaged with lessons and access their learning.
• Provide support during breaks, lunch and less structured periods.
• Follow individual behaviour, learning and support plans.
• Work closely with teachers and the wider pastoral and SEN team.

Behaviour Mentor - Lewisham - PRU - Immediate Start - Long Term Role Education First is recruiting an experienced and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join a specialist PRU in Lewisham, starting ASAP! The successful Behaviour Mentor will provide dedicated support to young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, helping students manage their behaviour, regulate their emotions and re-engage positively with education. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Behaviour Mentor, SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Youth Worker or Support Worker looking for a long-term position within a specialist PRU and alternative provision environment. The School This specialist PRU in Lewisham supports young people who may have experienced difficulties within mainstream education, including students with SEMH, challenging behaviour, ADHD, ASD, anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties and barriers to learning. The PRU provides a structured, supportive and nurturing environment, with a strong focus on positive behaviour, emotional wellbeing, re-engagement, resilience and improving students' attitude towards education. Staff work closely with students to build positive relationships, understand the reasons behind their behaviour and help them overcome the barriers that may be preventing them from achieving their potential. The setting provides a more individualised approach to education, helping students develop the confidence, social skills, independence and behaviours needed to successfully progress into their next stage of education, training or employment. The Role - Behaviour Mentor As a Behaviour Mentor working within the PRU, you will:

What We're Looking For

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN/SEND, SEMH or behavioural needs
• Experience working with SEMH, ASD and ADHD
• Experience within a PRU, alternative provision, SEMH school, SEN school or similar setting
• Experience providing 1:1 behavioural, pastoral or emotional support
• Experience supporting young people who have struggled within mainstream education, would be advantageous
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
• The ability to build positive and trusting relationships with students
• A good understanding of safeguarding
• Experience supporting students with complex needs, emotional regulation difficulties, anxiety, trauma or social and communication needs would also be advantageous
• Physical Intervention or Team Teach Training would be highly desirable
