Job summary

Milk Education is partnering with a large secondary school in Barnet to recruit a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join its pastoral support team. The role involves 1:1 mentoring, small-group interventions, and promoting positive behaviour to improve attendance and wellbeing.

Ideal candidates will have experience in roles like Learning Mentor or Teaching Assistant, strong safeguarding understanding, and a resilient, compassionate approach to help students overcome barriers to learning.

Responsibilities

  • Working as a Behaviour Mentor to support students with behavioural, social and emotional needs.
  • Delivering 1:1 mentoring sessions and small-group interventions.
  • Supporting students to develop positive behaviour strategies and self-regulation skills.
  • Working closely with pastoral leaders, Heads of Year and teaching staff.
  • Encouraging engagement in learning and improving attendance.
  • Building positive and professional relationships with students and families.
  • Supporting students during transitions, breaktimes and throughout the school day.
  • Monitoring progress and maintaining accurate records of interventions.

Milk Education are working in partnership with a large and inclusive secondary school in Barnet to recruit a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join their pastoral support team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a resilient and compassionate Behaviour Mentor who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve success both academically and personally.

The successful Behaviour Mentor will work closely with students across Key Stages 3 and 4, providing targeted support to those who require additional guidance with behaviour, engagement and emotional wellbeing. As a Behaviour Mentor, you will play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, improving attendance and helping students develop the confidence and skills needed to thrive in school.

The Role:
  • Working as a Behaviour Mentor to support students with behavioural, social and emotional needs
  • Delivering 1:1 mentoring sessions and small-group interventions
  • Supporting students to develop positive behaviour strategies and self-regulation skills
  • Working closely with pastoral leaders, Heads of Year and teaching staff
  • Encouraging engagement in learning and improving attendance
  • Building positive and professional relationships with students and families
  • Supporting students during transitions, breaktimes and throughout the school day
  • Monitoring progress and maintaining accurate records of interventions
The Ideal Candidate:
  • Previous experience as a Behaviour Mentor, Learning Mentor, Youth Worker, Teaching Assistant or Support Worker
  • Experience working with secondary-aged students
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
  • Patient, resilient and empathetic approach
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures
  • Passion for supporting young people to achieve positive outcomes

Essential Requirements:
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
