Job summary

The Old Station Nursery Group in Bishopthorpe is seeking a Bank Nursery Practitioner to join our flexible casual team. You will support children and colleagues, covering shifts as needed across the nursery in a warm, caring environment.

We value adaptability and a genuine passion for early years, with DBS checks and safeguarding in place. A Level 2/3 Early Years qualification is desirable but not essential, and sponsorship is not offered for this role.

• Level 2 or Level 3 Early Years qualification desirable but not essential.

Pay: £12.71 - £12.71 per Hour based on experience. Plus an additional 13.54% accrued holiday pay entitlement.

Hours:Flexible zero hours contract. Whether you’re looking for occasional shifts or more regular work, opportunities are available Monday–Friday between 8am–6pm depending on nursery needs.

Where You'll Be Working

Based in a charming listed former school building opposite Bishopthorpe library, our nursery boasts four beautiful rooms, each lovingly restored to preserve their original features. Outside our nursery, we offer three beautiful gardens and onsite Forest School. We have a home from home feel and strive to create an enabling environment that our Rascals thrive in. As part of our ethos all of our food is organic and made daily on site by our kitchen team to provide healthy and fresh meals for both the children and staff. We also have our own Our Out of School and Holiday Club attached to our local school which has various arts and crafts activities for children to enjoy along with plenty of outdoor adventures to keep children engaged! We also have our very own Nursery dog; Mabel who is training to be a Therapy dog for children. She does two days a week and loves snuggles with the both the Staff and the children!

What You'll Be Doing

As part of our Bank Nursery Team, you’ll support children and colleagues across the nursery as and when needed -whether that’s covering holidays, supporting during busy periods, or helping provide consistency for children when teams need extra support.

No two days are ever quite the same -and that’s part of the joy.

One moment you could be building dens outdoors and the next you’ll be helping bring story time to life.

You’ll support children through play, creativity, curiosity, and connection while helping create a safe, nurturing environment where they feel happy, valued, and confident to explore.

What We’re Looking For

Experience working in a childcare or Early Years setting, aLevel 2 or Level 3 Early Years qualification is desirable but not essential.

We’re looking for people with big hearts, curious minds, and a genuine passion for supporting children’s growth and development.
