Job overview

The successful candidate will provide professional support to the Children’s Community Nursing service and Rapid Response Teams. The Palliative Care Service works alongside other Specialist Nursing Services including Children’s Complex Care and Special School Nursing teams. You will participate in on-call duties to provide end-of-life care to children and young people. We are looking for passionate individuals committed to supporting CYP and their families during palliative and terminal care phases. This role offers opportunities to develop leadership and management skills within a supportive team. Applicants should be registered Children's or Adult Nurses with excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking three skilled, motivated, and compassionate nurses experienced in caring for children with life-threatening or limiting conditions. Our established Children’s Palliative Care Nursing Service delivers high-quality, holistic, child-centered care, focusing on quality of life, and supporting families at home during the palliative and end-of-life phases. The role involves supporting families to meet social, emotional, practical, and nursing needs.

  • RSCN/RN Child Branch
  • ENB 998 (Teaching & Assessing in Clinical Practice) or equivalent
Experience
  • Experience working with children with life-limiting/threatening illnesses and end-of-life care
  • Significant experience as a Children’s Nurse (RSCN/RN Child)
Skills/Knowledge
  • Ability to manage a team in the absence of the Team Leader/Children’s Palliative Care Lead
  • Knowledge of child protection procedures
  • Assessment skills and understanding of nursing processes and models
  • Adherence to NMC Code of Conduct and scope of professional practice
  • Knowledge of legislative changes affecting NHS and Social Services, especially community care
  • Current clinical trends and evidence-based practices in Children’s Community Nursing and Palliative Care
  • Responsibility for health and safety
  • Understanding of family needs related to culture and religion
  • Ability to problem-solve and utilize diverse information sources
  • Effective planning, prioritization, and resource management skills
