An exciting opportunity has arisen at Greyfriars PICU for an experienced, compassionate, and motivated Senior Nurse.

Greyfriars is a ten-bed Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit providing care for individuals requiring increased supervision due to acute mental health issues.

Wotton Lawn is an 88-bed acute mental health hospital in Gloucester, offering inpatient services to support and rehabilitate individuals with mental health conditions. The multidisciplinary team includes doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, therapists, ward secretaries, and hotel services staff. We pride ourselves on delivering compassionate, recovery-focused care.

The role involves supporting the Unit Manager, developing and maintaining clinical standards, and working across shifts, including weekends and nights. The successful candidate will participate in the Band 6 Clinical lead rota.

We seek a highly motivated individual to lead our team in advancing PICU services in line with national standards. Flexible working arrangements will be considered, subject to operational needs.

Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse in Mental Health with a formal teaching and assessing course (completed or in progress)
  • Skills in appraisal, risk assessment, and managing violence and aggression (within 3 months)
Experience
  • Significant experience in acute inpatient mental health settings, managing emergencies, and PICU
  • Completion of the Trust’s Preceptorship Programme
  • Teaching and presentation skills
  • Crisis Home Treatment experience
Knowledge
  • Medical Emergency Response Team standards (equivalent to ILS)
  • Understanding of the Mental Health Act, MCA, and legal aspects of mental health care
  • Knowledge of PICU assessment criteria and referral training
  • Clinical supervisory skills
  • Understanding of the Care Programme Approach, Trust policies, NICE guidelines, and health and well-being standards
