Responsibilities

  • Providing a friendly, professional and high-quality food and beverage service.
  • Following all departmental procedures for patient meal service and food safety.
  • Recording temperatures of regenerated food, chilled and frozen storage in line with HACCP requirements.
  • Checking food dates and stock rotation and ensuring food is stored correctly.
  • Maintaining excellent cleaning and hygiene standards within the working area.
  • Handling cleaning chemicals safely in accordance with COSHH training.
  • Managing food waste appropriately and reporting excessive waste to supervisors.
  • Identifying and reporting equipment, service or other faults to supervisors or team leads.
  • Reporting any concerns regarding inappropriate or abusive behaviour to a supervisor or line manager.

We have exciting opportunities to join the Catering Team at University Hospitals Birmingham and play an important role in delivering high-quality meals and beverages to our patients at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. We have a range of permanent posts available, offering different working patterns:



  • 1 x 37.5 hours -- Monday to Friday, 07:00-15:00

  • 2 x 20 hours -- Monday to Friday, 15:30-19:30

  • 1 x 15 hours -- Saturday and Sunday, 07:00-15:00

  • 1 x 8 hours -- Sunday, 10:30-14:30 and 15:30-19:30

  • 2 x 16 hours -- Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 10:30-14:30

  • 2 x 8 hours -- Various weekday shifts


These roles offer an excellent opportunity to find a working pattern that suits you while becoming part of a busy, friendly and supportive catering team. You will help ensure patients receive a safe, nutritious and enjoyable meal and beverage service, while maintaining high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and food safety. As a Catering Operative, you will play an important role in providing a high-quality meal and beverage service to patients across the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. You will work closely with patients and ward teams to ensure meals are delivered safely, accurately and on time. Key duties include:
