Job summary

iwoca is hiring a Backend Engineer for the Repeats team in London. You’ll own backend features end-to-end, shaping how repeat customers are offered loans, priced, and how much they can borrow. Over time you may take on frontend work (Pandora/React) to become full-stack.

You’ll work hybrid in London, with a fast-paced, cross-functional team and a strong emphasis on testing, reliability, and data-driven decision making.

Qualifications

• Clear, testable Python code is required.
• 1+ years of commercial engineering experience.
• Good knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL).
• Willingness to pick up front-end (React/TypeScript) over time.
• Strong written and spoken communication; explain technical work to non-engineers.
• Experience writing automated tests and safe releases.
• Use of AI tools to speed up boilerplate and research.

Responsibilities

• Own backend features end-to-end from design to shipping and monitoring.
• Over time, pick up frontend work to become full-stack.
• Maintain and support core services behind repeat lending (e.g., lending_decision app, repeats pricing).
• Monitor production and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Data Science, and Analytics to ship solid, scalable solutions.
