Job summary

GitLab is seeking a Backend Engineer in the Pipeline Authoring area to mature Catalog and Component functionality, improving performance, reliability, and security of Pipeline Creation while considering usability and user experience. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to keep GitLab CI/CD best-in-class.

The role requires strong Ruby on Rails skills, experience with PostgreSQL and GraphQL, and a proactive, collaborative mindset in a fully remote, multi-country setting.

Qualifications

• Proficiency with Ruby and Ruby on Rails.
• Proven experience writing testable code in Ruby on Rails.
• Experience with Relational Database Management Systems (PostgreSQL is a plus).
• Experience with GraphQL is a plus.
• Ability to self-manage and work asynchronously and collaboratively.
• Clear and concise communication of complex problems and iterative solutions.
• Familiarity with end-to-end software development (Agile is a plus).
• Proven ability to work effectively with product managers, designers, and other engineers.
• Commitment to continuous learning and openness to feedback.

Responsibilities

• Write high-quality, efficient, and maintainable Ruby on Rails code.
• Ship small features and improvements with minimal guidance; collaborate on larger projects.
• Improve reliability, security, and performance.
• Address technical debt with proposed solutions.
• Participate in agile practices and async planning.
• Contribute feedback to improve the team and processes.
• Stay current with industry best practices and tools.
• Participate in Tier 2 on-call rotations to support operations.
