Job summary

Tesco UK is building a next-generation Fulfilment platform to support both manual and robotic powered operations across customer order fulfilment locations. The Backend Engineer (SDE2) will develop scalable Java services, APIs and microservices to optimise fulfilment workflows and enable real-time decision making.

You will collaborate with product managers and engineers in a globally distributed team, own medium-sized features, contribute to design and delivery, write clean code, and mentor

Qualifications

• Experience building scalable, distributed Java applications.
• Hands-on experience operating backend services in production.
• Previous contribution in globally distributed software teams is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Build scalable, resilient Java backend services and microservices to support fulfilment workflows.
• Deliver backend features end-to-end with some integration.
• Take ownership of medium-sized features and contribute to their design and delivery.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to understand problems and propose solutions.
• Write clean, maintainable code and participate in peer reviews to raise quality.
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge across the team.
• Apply best practices and continuously improve development processes and standards.
