Tesco UK is seeking a Software Development Engineer II for the Behavioural Data Platform in London. You will contribute to high-performance backend services that capture user behavioural data and power analytics for millions of customers.

Join a collaborative, self-organising team; you’ll work with Java/Spring Boot, Kafka, Kubernetes, and CI/CD, learning observability with New Relic and Splunk while shipping reliable software.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of Java and Spring Boot in backend systems.
• Experience building event-driven services and REST APIs.
• Familiar with object-oriented programming principles.
• Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively.
• Willingness to learn and work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Develop backend event-driven platform features using Java and Spring Boot.
• Partner with senior engineers to design, test, and ship code.
• Use observability tools to monitor live systems.
• Participate in planning and share ideas.
• Write automated test suites to ensure quality.
• Review code and improve development practices.
• Understand distributed systems and data processing at scale.
• Create, maintain, and deploy apps using CI/CD pipelines.
• Gain hands-on experience with Kafka, Kubernetes, and distributed services.
• Collaborate in a team environment with strong communication.
