Job summary

Client Server is seeking an experienced backend-focused engineer to join a real-time messaging platform powering developers and businesses. You will work with Go, Node.js, and modern server-side technologies in a flexible, remote-friendly setup with a North London office for occasional collaboration.

The role emphasizes building scalable distributed systems, optimizing performance, and contributing to AI-enabled development workflows, while maintaining ownership of architecture and code quality.

Qualifications

• Backend development with Go or Node.js.
• Experience building or operating distributed systems and messaging.
• Understanding of scalability, concurrency, performance optimisation and fault-tolerant design.
• Experience with Pub/Sub messaging.
• Ability to solve complex technical challenges and deliver production-ready software.
• Comfort working autonomously in a fast-paced engineering environment.
• Open to using AI development tools while maintaining engineering quality.
• Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ or NATS is a plus.

Salary: £40,000 - 70,000 per year

Requirements:

• Strong backend development experience with Go, Node.js or another modern server-side language
• Experience building or operating distributed systems, messaging platforms, event-driven architectures or streaming technologies
• Understanding of scalability, concurrency, performance optimisation and fault tolerant system design
• Experience with Pub / Sub messaging
• Ability to solve complex technical challenges and deliver high quality, production-ready software
• Comfort working autonomously in a fast-paced engineering environment
• Openness to using modern AI development tools while maintaining a strong focus on engineering quality
• Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, NATS, streaming systems, developer platforms or cloud infrastructure is highly advantageous
