Job summary

Client Server in North London is seeking a Backend Developer/Software Engineer to build a real-time messaging platform using Go or Node.js, focusing on distributed systems and low-latency architectures.

You will contribute to high-scale distributed infrastructure, ensure performance and reliability, and own production-grade software in an AI-enabled engineering environment.

Qualifications

• Backend development experience with Go, Node.js or another modern server-side language.
• Experience building or operating distributed systems, messaging platforms or streaming technologies.
• Understands scalability, concurrency and fault-tolerant system design.
• Experience with Pub/Sub messaging is highly desirable.

Backend Developer / Software Engineer (Go / Node Pub / Sub) Remote / Hybrid to £120k + Equity

Are you an experienced Backend Developer who enjoys building distributed systems, real-time infrastructure and solving complex scalability challenges?

You could be progressing your career at a high growth technology company whose messaging platform powers millions of real-time interactions for developers and businesses worldwide.

Your role:

As a Backend Developer, you'll join the team responsible for the core messaging platform that underpins the company's real-time infrastructure. Working on highly scalable distributed systems, you'll design and build new platform capabilities, improve performance and reliability and solve complex engineering problems at scale.

You'll contribute across low latency messaging, Pub / Sub services, state synchronisation and next generation AI communication infrastructure, delivering production grade software used by developers around the globe.

Working in an AI first engineering environment, you'll leverage modern AI tools to accelerate development while retaining full ownership of architecture, code quality and technical decision-making.

Location / WFH:

You can work from most of the time, collaborating via Slack and meeting up with the team at the dog friendly office in North London for tech talks, lunch and learn events etc. around once a month.

About You

• You have strong backend development experience with Go, Node.js or another modern server-side language
• You have experience building or operating distributed systems, messaging platforms, event-driven architectures or streaming technologies
• You understand scalability, concurrency, performance optimisation and fault tolerant system design
• You have experience with Pub / Sub messaging
• You enjoy solving complex technical challenges and delivering high quality, production ready software
• You're comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced engineering environment
• You embrace modern AI development tools while maintaining a strong focus on engineering quality
• Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, NATS, streaming systems, developer platforms or cloud infrastructure is highly advantageous
