Job summary

Nonacus, based in Birmingham, seeks an AWS Platform Engineer to maintain cloud infrastructure underpinning our clinical software. You will work primarily on AWS with Terraform, delivering secure, scalable environments in a regulated diagnostics setting.

Reporting to the Principal Bioinformatics Engineer, you’ll build, test and operate infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and security controls, collaborating across software, bioinformatics and quality teams to ensure uptime and compliance.

Qualifications

• Degree in computer science, software/cloud engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Hands-on experience with AWS core services (EC2, S3, IAM, VPC) gained professionally or through projects.
• Some experience deploying and maintaining application infrastructure.
• Foundational scripting/programming (Python and/or Bash).
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or CloudFormation).
• Familiarity with CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI) and version control (Git).
• Understanding of Linux system administration fundamentals.
• Strong problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
• A methodical approach to operations.
• Good communication and collaboration skills.
• Willingness to learn and take on increasing responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Build, deploy, and maintain AWS infrastructure and configurations.
• Develop and maintain IaC and CI/CD pipelines for secure deployments.
• Monitor, back up, log, and ensure platform reliability and uptime.
• Support security controls and compliance across the cloud platform.
