Job summary

Metroline Manchester is recruiting a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic to join our engineering team at Wythenshawe depot. You will inspect, diagnose and maintain our fleet of buses to the highest standards, with a focus on safety and availability.

You will work on mechanical and electrical repairs, road testing on completion, and mentor apprentices as needed. The role carries shift work 4 over 7 and offers competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• Experience in vehicle bodywork repairs and maintenance, ideally on buses or coaches.
• Ability to follow maintenance manuals and wiring diagrams precisely.
• Awareness of health and safety practices and DoT standards.
• Familiarity with DOT/VOSA requirements for bus operations.
• Basic bus bodywork knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Carry out mechanical, electrical and minor body repairs and road test after repair.
• Ensure operating department needs are met and enough vehicles are available.
• Ensure all vehicles comply with company standards.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records per DoT and company policies.
• Work safely according to Health and Safety policies and procedures.
• Train/mentor apprentices and new recruits.

We’re Metroline Manchester, the newest addition to the Bee Network, buzzing in Greater Manchester since January 2025!

Job Summary - Vehicle Technician/ Mechanic

Locations available:

Hours & Pay :

• Salary £51,331.54 - £58,247.54 DOE (£23.85- £26.80 per hour Mon- Fri, £32.36 - £37.45 per hour Sat-Sun depending on experience)
• Shift work 4 over 7

As an integral member of the Metroline Manchester Engineering Team you will be reporting to the Engineering Manager and collaborating with other mechanics and engineering specialists across the business. The primary responsibility as a Shift Vehicle Technician / Mechanic is to inspect, diagnose and maintain vehicles to the highest standard to achieve maximum vehicle availability. As a Shift Vehicle Technician / Mechanic you are responsible for working in a safe manner as stated in current legislation and ELBG policies and procedures.

Main Responsibilities

• To carry out mechanical, electrical and minor body repairs. To road test on completion of repair.
• To ensure that the needs of the Operating Department are met and that enough vehicles are available to meet PVR.
• To ensure that all vehicles provided for operation comply with the standards set by the company.
• To ensure that all appropriate documentation and records are maintained accurately in order to satisfy the requirements of the Department of Transport Operators licence and company policies and procedures.
• To work in accordance with safe working practices as stated in Health and Safety policy and procedures.
• To train / mentor apprentices and new recruits.

Essential Criteria

• Knowledge and previous experience of vehicle bodywork repairs and maintenance procedures, ideally on HGV, PCV or Buses
• Ability to read and understand complex technical instructions in maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, technical service publications
• Awareness and understanding of risk assessment, Health and Safety practices and Department of Transport standards
• An understanding of the standards required by VOSA and the Department of Transport
• Basic bus bodywork
