Job summary

Empowering Learning are seeking Teaching Assistants for a York-based Secondary Special Needs School to support in classrooms on a 1:1 basis or within small groups. Roles start ASAP and can be full or part time. Pay is £100-£110 per day, Monday to Friday, with hours 8:30am–3:30pm.

The school caters to Primary and Secondary pupils with autism, challenging behaviours and communication needs. You will be involved in classroom duties and off-site recreational activities.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children with special needs or challenging behaviours.
  • Strong communication with students, parents and colleagues.
  • Ability to work well in a team and follow teacher guidance.
  • Patience, empathy and a positive attitude when supporting pupils.
  • Effective classroom management and adapting to needs of learners.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the lead teacher with educational programs and activities.
  • Support students with special needs, including autism.
  • Create a positive, inclusive learning environment.
  • Help with daily tasks such as personal care and hygiene.
  • Support academic and social development of students.
  • Collaborate to develop and implement IEPs for students.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to the lead teacher.
  • Assist with behaviour management strategies.
