Job summary

Empowering Learning are seeking Teaching Assistants for a Secondary Special Needs School in York to support students in 1:1 and small group settings. Roles start ASAP and can be full or part-time, with pay of £100-£110 per day, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30pm.

The school supports Primary and Secondary pupils with autism and challenging behaviours, focusing on communication needs and inclusive education. You will assist in classroom duties and off-site activities, contributing to a nurturing

Qualifications

Job description

Empowering Learning are working with a Secondary Special Needs School in York who are seeking Teaching Assistants to support in their classrooms on a 1:1 basis or within small groups. These roles are to start ASAP and are full or part time.

Pay: £100-£110 a day Monday to Friday school hours 8.30 - 3.30pm

The school caters for Primary and Secondary pupils supporting Children with Autism and Challenging Behaviours and communication needs.

You will be involved in classroom duties and off‑site recreational activities.

Duties
  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing educational programs and activities for students.
  • Provide support to students with special needs, including those with autism.
  • Assist in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Help students with daily tasks, such as personal care and hygiene.
  • Support students in their academic and social development.
  • Collaborate with the lead teacher to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the lead teacher.
  • Assist with classroom management and behaviour management strategies.
Skills
  • Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs and challenging behaviours.
  • Knowledge of special education practices and strategies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards working with children.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and handle challenging behaviours.
  • Knowledge of toddler care and development is a plus.
