Job summary

Empowering Learning are partnering with a Secondary Special Needs School in York to recruit Teaching Assistants. The roles are 1:1 or small group support, starting ASAP and available on both full-time and part-time contracts.

Pay is 100–110 GBP per day, Monday to Friday, school hours 8:30am–3:30pm. The school supports Primary and Secondary pupils with Autism, challenging behaviours, and communication needs.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs and challenging behaviours.
  • Knowledge of special education practices and strategies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards working with children.
  • Ability to adapt to changing situations and handle challenging behaviours.
  • Knowledge of toddler care and development is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing educational programs and activities for students.
  • Provide support to students with special needs, including those with autism.
  • Assist in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Help students with daily tasks, such as personal care and hygiene.
  • Support students in their academic and social development.
  • Collaborate with the lead teacher to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the lead teacher.
  • Assist with classroom management and behaviour management strategies.
