Job summary

Academics in Hatfield is seeking an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to support autistic pupils and those with social, emotional, and mental health needs. The role emphasizes tailored support around ASC, sensory needs, and emotional wellbeing within a school setting.

You will work inside and outside the classroom to build independence, confidence and engagement in learning, while collaborating with teachers and families to monitor progress.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting autistic children or young people.
• Experience as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant.
• Understanding ASC and how autism affects communication, sensory processing, behaviour and regulation.

Responsibilities

• Provide personalised classroom support based on ASC/SEMH needs.
• Support pupils with autism, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties, and behavioural challenges.
• Help pupils understand and manage emotions using regulation strategies.
• Support sensory needs and create a calm, structured learning environment.
• Use clear communication and routines to help pupils feel safe and secure.
• Support positive behaviour strategies and monitor progress.
• Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, families and other professionals.
