Job summary

The Supply Register is seeking Learning Support Mentors to join a specialist education setting across the county. You will support pupils in classroom and small groups, delivering targeted interventions to boost literacy, numeracy, communication and social skills. Autism-friendly approaches will be utilised to support learners’ needs.

You will work with teachers and specialists to help pupils achieve individual goals while fostering positive relationships with families and colleagues.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with SEND, especially Autism/SEMH.
• Understanding social communication differences and strategies for autistic learners.
• Ability to build strong relationships based on trust, consistency and respect.
• Patient, resilient and adaptable.
• Excellent communication and listening skills.
• Commitment to inclusive learning for every child.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils in the classroom, small groups and 1:1.
• Deliver interventions to develop literacy, numeracy, communication and social skills.
• Use autism-friendly strategies (TEACCH, visual supports, personalised learning).
• Help pupils regulate emotions, manage anxiety and wellbeing.
• Promote independence, confidence and resilience.
• Build positive relationships with pupils, families and colleagues.
• Collaborate with teachers and specialists to help pupils achieve goals.
