Job summary

Brewer Morris in Birmingham is seeking an Audit Manager/Senior Manager to lead a diverse client portfolio within a Top 20 accountancy practice. You will work closely with Partners on strategic matters, drive delivery of complex audits and mentor Audit Seniors and Managers.

The role offers clear progression opportunities towards Director and Partner levels, a supportive leadership team, and a flexible working environment with a focus on audit quality and client service across SME to corporate

Qualifications

  • ACA or ACCA qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience at Audit Manager or Senior Manager in a UK accountancy practice.
  • Strong knowledge of UK GAAP, FRS 102; IFRS exposure advantageous.
  • Experience managing a SME to corporate client portfolio.
  • Proven leadership and ability to develop audit teams.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and client relationship skills.
  • Based in or commutable to Birmingham.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop a portfolio of audit clients, acting as a trusted advisor and primary relationship contact.
  • Lead the planning, delivery and completion of complex audit engagements, ensuring quality standards and deadlines are consistently achieved.
  • Review audit files and provide technical oversight, guidance and challenge across multiple engagements.
  • Coach, mentor and develop Audit Seniors, Managers and Assistant Managers, fostering a high-performing team culture.
  • Work closely with Partners to identify opportunities for additional services and support business development initiatives.
  • Provide commercially focused insights and recommendations to clients and senior stakeholders.
  • Support practice growth through networking, proposal work and participation in wider firm initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and firm-wide audit quality standards.

My client is a Top 20 Accountancy Practice looking to further strengthen their Audit team with the appointment of an Audit Manager or Senior Manager to be based out of the Birmingham office. The firm has a well-established presence in the Midlands, servicing a diverse portfolio of clients ranging from ambitious owner-managed businesses through to large corporate and international groups across a broad range of sectors.

Main responsibilities:
  • Manage and develop a portfolio of audit clients, acting as a trusted advisor and primary relationship contact
  • Lead the planning, delivery and completion of complex audit engagements, ensuring quality standards and deadlines are consistently achieved
  • Review audit files and provide technical oversight, guidance and challenge across multiple engagements
  • Coach, mentor and develop Audit Seniors, Managers and Assistant Managers, fostering a high-performing team culture
  • Work closely with Partners to identify opportunities for additional services, support business development initiatives and contribute to client retention strategies
  • Provide commercially focused insights and recommendations to clients and senior stakeholders
  • Support practice growth through networking, proposal work and participation in wider firm initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and firm-wide audit quality standards
Requirements:
  • ACA or ACCA qualified (or equivalent)
  • Proven experience operating at Audit Manager or Senior Manager level within a UK accountancy practice
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP, FRS 102 and audit regulations, with IFRS exposure advantageous
  • Experience managing a substantial client portfolio across SME, mid-market and corporate clients
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and motivate high-performing audit teams
  • Strong stakeholder management and client relationship-building skills
  • Commercially minded with an interest in contributing to practice growth
  • Based in or commutable to Birmingham
