Job summary

STEMCELL Technologies in Cambridge, UK is seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer to join our Instrumentation UK engineering team. You will apply foundational mechanical engineering principles to support R&D, design, testing, and continuous improvement of our cell-sorting instruments, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team including Manufacturing and Quality.

Our role spans concept development to test rigs, with mentoring from senior engineers and opportunities to contribute to product

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with up to 2 years of experience.
  • Hands-on engineering experience in a technical setting.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks, and solid engineering fundamentals.
  • Strong self-starting, collaborative mindset with willingness to take direction and mentorship.
  • Good problem-solving and communication skills with ability to analyze data and draw conclusions.
  • Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, or C++ is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical Design & CAD: Use 3D CAD (SolidWorks) to design components, create drawings, and run basic analyses.
  • Prototyping & Testing: Build and evaluate prototypes, tooling, and test rigs for R&D and design verification.
  • Production & Sustaining Support: Assist manufacturing with assembly troubleshooting and design improvements.
  • Problem Solving & Investigations: Conduct root-cause analyses with senior engineers to resolve issues.
  • Technical Documentation: Produce test protocols, work instructions, and QMS-compliant reports.
  • Future Product Development: Contribute to next-generation cell-sorting instrumentation.
