Job summary

Carrington West in Manchester is seeking an Associate Director to lead and develop its Transmission & Distribution design capability for major UK power infrastructure projects. The role focuses on technical delivery, leadership, and client/stakeholder engagement across substations, transmission, and distribution networks.

You will oversee engineering design packages, drive project performance, and mentor teams. A Chartered Engineer or progress toward Chartership is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Strong background within Transmission & Distribution design.
• Ideally 5 years' post graduate engineering experience, although this is flexible for the right candidate.
• Experience working within a grid-based, regulated or utility environment.

Want to take a senior leadership role within a growing Transmission & Distribution design team delivering major UK power infrastructure projects? Our client is looking for an experienced Associate Director to help lead and develop its T&D design capability, supporting projects across substations, transmission, distribution and wider grid infrastructure.

As Associate Director, you will take a senior role within the design team, providing technical and operational leadership across a portfolio of Transmission & Distribution projects.

You will oversee the delivery of engineering and design packages, support project and programme performance, manage and mentor engineering teams, and work closely with clients and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

The role will also involve supporting resource planning, technical governance, design quality and the continued growth of the T&D business.

Requirements

• Strong background within Transmission & Distribution design
• Ideally 5 years' post graduate engineering experience, although this is flexible for the right candidate
• Experience working within a grid-based, regulated or utility environment
• Previous experience leading or managing engineering/design teams
• Strong understanding of power infrastructure projects including substations, transmission or distribution networks
• Ability to manage multiple engineering projects and technical deliverables
• Strong client-facing and stakeholder management experience
• Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartership would be advantageous

Salary, package and development

For this Associate Director opportunity, you will receive:
