Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is recruiting an Associate Director Mechanical Engineer for our Design & Advanced Technology (D&AT) Practice in the UK. You will lead a team of mechanical engineers delivering high‑quality design work for water projects, ensuring schedule adherence, budgets, and compliance with UK standards.

You will provide technical leadership across regional and national practice initiatives, drive capability development, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams both in the UK and overseas.

Qualifications

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered Mechanical Engineer.
• Proven experience leading large-scale Mechanical engineering design delivery in a design consultancy.
• Experience in water market projects and regulatory standards.
• Excellent communication with diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of Mechanical engineers delivering design work on complex multi-disciplinary projects, following codes and standards.
• Develop mechanical design deliverables and manage time and budgets to milestones.
• Review and approve technical deliverables such as reports, drawings, calculations, and scopes of work.
• Provide technical leadership within the D&AT practice and promote best practices.
• Grow and manage mechanical engineering capabilities within the regional or national practice.
• Guide junior team members and provide problem-solving support.
• Advise on client, operational, project, or service activities within project teams.
• Collaborate on bid proposals and work with multi-disciplinary teams in the UK and overseas.
