Associate Director (Cost Management)
Location: London (Farringdon)
Salary: £70,000 - £90,000, depending on experience
A growing and dynamic construction consultancy is seeking a commercially focused Associate Director (Cost Management) to join their London office. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a forward-thinking team delivering high-value private and public sector projects ranging from £1m to £350m.
What You'll Do
Cost Planning & Pre-Construction
Lead detailed cost plans, feasibility studies, and budget estimates.
Provide early-stage cost advice to guide key design and planning decisions.
Tendering & Procurement
Manage procurement for contractors and suppliers.
Lead tender evaluations, negotiate terms, and secure value-driven contracts.
Maintain procurement schedules aligned with project delivery.
Contract Administration & Commercial Management
Administer JCT and bespoke residential contracts.
Manage project budgets, oversee change control (variations, claims), and produce financial reports.
Work collaboratively with site teams for valuations and payments.
Project Oversight
Lead the commercial delivery of multiple projects simultaneously.
Monitor performance against cost plans and optimise profitability.
Produce accurate forecasts and strategic reports for senior stakeholders.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
Act as the key commercial point of contact for clients.
Attend client meetings and provide commercially focused advice.
Build relationships with funders, developers, and consultants.
Team Leadership
Lead and mentor junior cost consultants, fostering a high-performance culture.
Ensure quality outputs and promote professional development across the team.
Business Support & Growth
Support strategic planning, budgeting, and commercial reviews.
Identify and implement innovations, efficiencies, and process improvements.
Contribute to new business development and client presentations.
Governance & Compliance
Ensure compliance with all legislative and health & safety requirements.
Promote sustainability and environmental considerations in cost planning and procurement.
Qualifications
Degree in Quantity Surveying
MRICS or equivalent chartered status
Experience
Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in a similar senior consultancy role
Demonstrable experience delivering large-scale projects (residential experience highly desirable)
Strong track record in both pre- and post-contract cost management
Skills & Traits
Excellent client-facing, commercial, and leadership skills
Self-starter with strong communication and influencing ability
In-depth understanding of JCT contracts, value engineering, and risk management
Capable of generating new business opportunities
Collaborative, proactive, and committed to high standards
