The Abbey in Manchester is seeking an Associate / Team Leader level Building Physics Engineer to lead delivery of building performance and sustainability services across a diverse project portfolio.

You will mentor junior engineers, engage with clients and design teams, and shape the development of the Manchester building physics capability. The role combines hands-on technical work with leadership and strategic input.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Building Physics, Engineering, or related discipline.
• Significant consultancy experience delivering building physics and energy modelling.
• Strong knowledge of UK building regulations, energy standards, and sustainability frameworks.
• Experience using industry software such as IES, DesignBuilder, or similar.
• Proven ability to lead projects and support junior team members.
• Confident communicator with strong client-facing skills.

Responsabilités

• Lead and deliver building physics and building performance services across a range of project types.
• Oversee thermal modelling, energy assessments, overheating analysis, daylighting, and Part L compliance.
• Provide technical leadership, quality assurance, and review of team outputs.
• Act as a key point of contact for clients, architects, and design teams.
• Support the growth and development of the Manchester building physics team.
• Contribute to bids, proposals, and wider business development activities.
• Mentor and line-manage engineers, supporting professional development.

About the Role

An established, multi-disciplinary built environment consultancy is seeking an Associate / Team Leader level Building Physics Engineer to join its growing Manchester team. This is a senior technical and leadership role, offering the opportunity to shape and grow a building physics capability within a respected national practice.You will lead the delivery of building performance and sustainability services across a diverse portfolio of projects, while mentoring and developing junior engineers. The role offers a strong balance of hands‑on technical involvement, client engagement, and strategic input.
