Job summary

Sompo International seeks an Assistant Underwriter for its Cross-Class Portfolio team in London. You will support strategy, apply underwriting standards, and assist with portfolio management, working with underwriters, brokers, and operations.

The role emphasizes attention to detail, Excel and data interpretation, strong communication, and collaboration across underwriting and finance teams. This is a development-focused opportunity within a global insurer.

Qualifications

• Understanding of, or strong interest in, delegated authority business and programme underwriting.
• Strong Excel, analytical and data interpretation skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Experience in an underwriting environment, bordereaux handling, or underwriting administration is desirable.
• Knowledge of Lloyd’s market processes or progress toward industry qualifications such as CII is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Strategy and Planning: Understand and contribute to the divisional business plan, referring to Senior Underwriters or Underwriters where appropriate.
• Policy, Process and Procedures: Perform underwriting activities within authority, in line with legal and regulatory requirements, to ensure obligations are met.
• Environmental Awareness/Customer Focus: Establish technical knowledge to support Senior/Underwriters and strengthen relationships with customers, brokers, and partners.
• Technical Performance: Develop technical knowledge with Head of/Senior/Underwriters, underwrite within authority, and monitor portfolio progress against objectives.
• People Management: Collaborate with team and uphold Sompo values.
