Job summary

Gravitas Group in the UK is seeking an Assistant Underwriter to join the Portfolio Solutions team. The role combines underwriting with portfolio management, supporting review of new and renewal business and monitoring portfolio performance within delegated authority and treaty arrangements.

Reporting to the team lead, you will work with actuarial, exposure management, claims, and data science colleagues, gradually increasing underwriting authority as you gain experience in a small, growing team.

Qualifications

• 2–4 years Lloyd’s/London Market experience, underwriting or portfolio analysis.
• Strong analytical and Excel skills.
• Knowledge of delegated authority, binders, or treaties advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Review portfolios to ensure alignment with underwriting guidelines.
• Monitor portfolio performance including premiums, exposures and loss ratios.
• Support data collection, bordereaux management and data validation.
• Progressively assume underwriting authority as experience grows.

The Assistant Underwriter joins the Portfolio Solutions team, supporting the underwriting of portfolios of business across delegated authority and treaty arrangements. The role involves both underwriting and portfolio management, contributing to the team’s broader objectives of monitoring and delivering on portfolio performance.

The organisation specialises in the Lloyd’s and London Market sectors, offering tailored capacity and risk transfer solutions within a collaborative environment that values development and broad exposure.

Role Overview

Reporting to the team lead, the Assistant Underwriter collaborates closely with actuarial, exposure management, claims, and compliance teams, assisting in reviewing new and renewal business, and monitoring portfolio metrics across multiple business classes. Success in this role involves building a solid understanding of portfolio exposures, supporting data queries, and gradually increasing underwriting authority as experience develops within a small, growing team.

Key Skills & Experience

• Review new business and renewal submissions, assessing risks and exposures
• Monitor portfolio performance, including premiums and exposures
• Manage bordereaux and data queries to ensure accurate data reporting
• Collaborate effectively with Actuarial, Exposure Management, Claims, and Data Science teams
• Demonstrate 2–4 years Lloyd’s/London Market experience, suitable for underwriting or portfolio analysis roles
• Possess knowledge of delegated authority, binders, lineslips, consortia, or treaties advantageous but not essential
• Display strong analytical and Excel skills, comfortable interpreting underwriting and financial data

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in reviewing and underwriting portfolios to ensure alignment with underwriting guidelines
• Monitor and report on portfolio performance metrics, including premium, exposures, and loss ratios
• Support data collection, bordereaux management, and data validation activities
• Work with cross-functional teams to handle data queries and improve underwriting processes
• Support the development of underwriting knowledge and increasingly take on underwriting authority as experience grows
