Lead practice. Support families. Make a difference.

Springwood Hub provides emergency and medium-term residential care, alongside outreach support offering intensive short-term interventions within family homes. The service plays a vital role in preventing children entering care where possible, supporting families during times of crisis and helping to reduce the risk of placement breakdown. At Norfolk County Council, we are committed to providing high-quality, child-centred care and support that helps disabled children and young people feel safe, listened to and able to thrive. We are proud of our services and our reputation for working creatively and ambitiously to achieve the best possible outcomes for children and families.

About the role

As Assistant Team Manager, you will provide day-to-day management support and leadership to a skilled residential and outreach team. You will work closely with the Team Manager to create a positive, safe and nurturing environment for children and young people, ensuring their health, safety, education, care planning and emotional wellbeing remain central to practice.

  • Lead, support and motivate staff to deliver high-quality care and support to children and young people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, complex health needs, and behaviours of distress that may challenge.
  • Provide regular supervision, performance management, appraisal, induction, and development support to ensure staff are competent, confident, and able to meet the individual needs of children and young people.
  • Take day-to-day responsibility for the home or service area when required, offering advice, guidance and decision-making support to the team.
  • Participate in care planning, statutory reviews, safeguarding processes and multi-agency decision-making.
  • Promote the voice of the child, ensuring children and young people are supported to express their views, wishes and feelings in ways that are meaningful to them.
  • Work in partnership with families, social care colleagues, education, health and other professionals to provide integrated support.
  • Support quality assurance, reflective practice, service development and compliance with legislation, Ofsted requirements and Norfolk County Council policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the out-of-hours rota and, where necessary, work evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
About you

We are looking for someone who is passionate about improving outcomes for disabled children and who can bring confidence, warmth and strong leadership to a busy and rewarding service.

  • A relevant professional qualification, such as Social Work, DipSW, CQSW, nursing, OT or equivalent, alongside relevant management training or qualification.
  • Significant experience of childcare work, including experience within residential, short breaks, outreach, disability or children’s social care services.
  • Knowledge of childcare legislation, safeguarding, child protection guidance and good practice in residential care.
  • Experience of leading, supervising, motivating and developing staff.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with children and young people and act as a calm, consistent and trusted role model.
  • Strong communication, organisation and decision-making skills, with the ability to chair meetings and manage competing priorities.
  • Confidence in working under pressure, using sound judgement and maintaining high standards of practice.
  • Suitable transport and the flexibility to work as part of the service rota, including occasional evenings, weekends, bank holidays and out-of-hours responsibilities.
