Job summary

Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice is seeking a part-time Retail Assistant to support the shop manager in growing income at our Lindley shop. You will lead a small team of staff and volunteers, ensure great customer service, and maintain attractive merchandising to drive sales.

You will help with stock, pricing, and shop operations while upholding safeguarding, cash handling, and record-keeping standards. Interviews in late September.

Qualifications

  • Excellent organisational skills required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to motivate and influence people.
  • Experience working with a team in a retail setting.
  • Good record-keeping, both paper and digital.
  • Flexibility to work evenings/weekends.
  • Previous charity retail experience preferred.
  • Experience managing a team is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the shop manager in developing and managing the shop to meet income targets.
  • Maintain accurate pricing, Gift Aid, and online listings.
  • Use sales reports to identify opportunities and improve performance.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and oversee volunteers.
  • Represent the charity positively in the local community.
  • Maintain attractive merchandising and window displays.
  • Keep the shop clean, safe and well presented.
  • Open/close shop as keyholder and ensure safety requirements.
  • Secure good-quality donated stock through local relationships.
  • Sort, price and display donations safely and efficiently.
  • Promote furniture collections and house clearances.
  • Support and guide the volunteer team and staff.
  • Complete admin tasks including banking and record-keeping.

Job description

Hours : 22.5 hours (3 days), Monday - Saturday

Location: Lindley

Responsible to: Shop Manager

Responsible for: Retail Apprentice (where applicable), volunteers

Role Summary

At Forget Me Not, we won't stop until every family who is facing uncertainty or living with the death of a child has the support they need and deserve. This role supports this vision byassisting the shop manager in developing and managing one of our shops to help generate vital income to fund our work. In this really hands-on role, your excellent talent for organisation will ensure the effective management of a team of colleagues and volunteers to achieve sales targets and maintain excellent merchandising standards.

Be the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice’s “ambassador” in the local community delivering our organisations key messages and promoting all aspects of the charity within the local area.

Working with the shop manager, you will:

  • Keep records secure and confidential.
  • Help maintain strong cash handling and security awareness.

We expect all staff to undertake any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job, the title of the post and its grading, as requested by your line manager or their higher level of authority on behalf of the charity.

This role will involve evening and weekend work so flexibility is essential.
