Job summary

Lighthouse Charity Shops is seeking a hardworking Retail Supervisor to support a network of charity shops across the Nottingham area. You will travel to current or future sites within a ~30 mile radius, supervising staff and volunteers while driving sales and maintaining shop standards.

You will work flexible hours between Monday and Sunday, 9am–5pm, with weekend work required. A full UK driving licence and access to a personal vehicle are essential for regular site visits.

Qualifications

Previous experience in a retail/customer centric environment including EPOS use.
Ability to motivate and work as a team.
Good numeracy and administrative skills.
Organised and able to manage resources in a busy multi-site environment.
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for travel between sites.

Responsibilities

Act as supervisor to assistants and volunteers, delegate tasks, ensure adherence to policies and staffing rota.
Maintain excellent customer service and communication with staff and the public.
Achieve sales targets through effective stock management and cost control.
Manage stock pricing, preparation for sale, and stock control across multiple shops.
Assist with collections and deliveries, liaising with HUB and other sites.

Job description

Responsible to: Retail People Manager

Responsible for: No direct line management, however responsible for supervising shop volunteers

Location: You will be working across our current or future sites in the Nottingham area with a travel radius requirement of approx. 30 miles from your base location.

Working Hours:Working any time between Monday and Sunday, 9am to 5pm. Weekend work will be required for this role.

Rate of Pay: £14.32 per hour, inclusive of holiday pay.

Purpose of the Job

To support the running and development of our network of shops. Each shop has a slightly different customer base and unlike large chain retail, you will have significant discretion over the running the shops, including a variety of opportunities to be creative in how you market the merchandise and increase sales. You will have the opportunity to identify and share best practice across the shops, and rather than being based in the same place, you will work across the network of shops. You will need to be flexible with the ability to adapt to different working environments as you will be working with different teams and in different sites each week, whilst maintaining best practices and standards. This role provides a great opportunity to gain experience in multi-site retail management.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

People Management

Act as supervisor to assistant managers and volunteers, delegate tasks to staff and volunteers, ensure staff and volunteers adhere to retail policy and procedures. Maintain an up to date staffing rota and record of volunteers.
Ensure a standard of excellence in areas such as Customer Service and overall communication with staff and members of the public.

Sales and Profit

Achieve agreed sales targets to maximise profit through effective stock management and cost control measures.

Stock Management

Maintain the shop pricing structure and effective stock management systems to achieve the maximum profit from goods. This includes: Supervision of sorting, preparation for sale and pricing of stock
Assist with effectively managing collections and deliveries, regularly liaising with the the HUB.
Generate a high volume of stock onto the shop sales floor, applying consistent and appropriate pricing, along with Gift Aid where applicable.
Identify high value items for eBay and any additional ways of recognising alternative revenue streams.
Maintain an attractive window display at all times with replenishment of stock when sold.
Ensure high levels of cleanliness are consistently maintained.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential Criteria

Previous experience in a retail/customer centric environment including the use of EPOS systems.
Previous experience of communicating with a diverse customer base
Ability to motivate, inspire and work as a team.
Good standard of numeracy
Good administrative and organisational skills with the ability to undertake banking tasks, keep basic records and organise resources in a busy environment.
Strong communicator with the ability to deal with customer issues and resolve problems with firmness and fairness.
The ability to recognise stock potential to generate income and the importance of attractive presentation.
Basic knowledge of Health & Safety and Fire regulations and ability to identify potential risks.
Flexible and positive attitude - Expectation to cover the shop manager and other team member's holidays & sickness.
Ability to use Microsoft office packages.
You must have a full UK driving licence, and business insurance.
You must have access to a personal vehicle and be willing to use this vehicle to travel to various locations to fulfil your role.

Processing stock deliveries will regularly involve carrying and moving (sometimes heavy) bags of stock. You will also be on your feet for long periods of time. On occasions you may be required to work on your own within the shop
