Job summary

British Red Cross in Paignton is seeking an Assistant Shop Manager to support customers, promote fundraising initiatives, and help meet targets.

You will recruit and motivate volunteers, manage stock and cash handling, ensure health and safety, and act as a key holder when needed. This is a part-time, on-site role in Paignton, aligned with Disability Confident employer scheme.

Responsibilities

• Promote fundraising initiatives, including maximising gift aid and round-up.
• Work as a team to meet targets and profit levels.
• Support growth of average weekly sales.
• Recruit, develop and motivate volunteers to meet shop needs.
• Maintain the Assemble system for volunteers and allocate tasks.
• Act as a key holder and ensure cash, stock and premises security.
• Ensure health and safety compliance at all times in the shop.
• In the absence of the Retail Manager, oversee day-to-day shop operations, including cash handling and banking.

• Effectively manage donated stock and bought in goods, ensuring that necessary standards are maintained.
• Deliver high standards of customer service
• Deal with customer complaints and queries in an effective manner
• Promote the shop in the community and respond to local queries about the services of the British Red Cross
• Actively recruit, develop, communicate with and motivate volunteers to meet the needs of the shop.
• Maintain the Assemble system for all volunteers within the shop
• Manage the task allocation to Volunteers, guiding activity to ensure require standards of performance
• Act as a key holder and ensure the security of cash, stock and premises
• Ensure health and safety compliance at all times in the shop
• In the absence of the Retail Manager be accountable for the day to day operation of the shop, including cash handling and banking.
