Job summary

Sunblink in the North West seeks an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team on live projects in structural steel. This role is ideal for someone early in their QS career to develop within a specialist environment, working alongside experienced commercial and estimating teams.

You will support cost tracking, valuations and reporting, assist with price variations, and help prepare subcontractor packages while developing strong Excel and IT skills.

Qualifications

• Some experience in a commercial/QS or estimating support role.
• Studying towards a QS-related qualification (degree/HNC/HND or equivalent).
• Strong numeracy and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Support QS team with cost tracking, valuations and reporting on live projects.
• Assist with measuring and pricing variations and payment applications.
• Help prepare subcontractor packages including procurement and valuations.
• Track project costs against budget and flag variances.
• Assist with preparation of final accounts and liaise with site teams and suppliers.

Our client is a well-established structural steel fabricator, known for exceptional and iconic projects across the UK. They're looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team and build a career in structural steel.

This is a great opportunity for someone early in their QS career to develop within a specialist environment, working alongside experienced commercial and estimating teams on live projects.

What you'll do

• Support the QS team with cost tracking, valuations and reporting across live projects
• Assist with measuring and pricing variations, and preparing applications for payment
• Help prepare subcontractor packages, including procurement, orders and valuations
• Track project costs against budget and flag variancesAssist with the preparation of final accounts
• Liaise with site teams, suppliers and subcontractors to gather accurate cost information
• Support the wider commercial team with reporting and administrative duties as required

What we're looking for

• Some experience in a commercial, QS or estimating support role (construction or steel sector preferred, but not essential)
• Studying towards, or interested in studying towards, a QS-related qualification (degree, HNC/HND or equivalent)
• Strong numeracy and attention to detail
• Good communication skills, comfortable liaising with site and supplier contacts
• Confident with Excel and general IT systems
• Organised, proactive, and keen to learn
