Quantity Surveyor - Structural Steel

Location: Leicestershire

Salary: £50,000 - £55,000

Job Type: Permanent, Full Time

The Company

The steel leaving this business ends up in some of the infrastructure that keeps the UK moving - including rail, highways and major construction projects.

This is a long-established specialist steel fabricator with a substantial manufacturing operation and a strong pipeline of work. Behind every project is a commercial team making sure the numbers stack up, costs are controlled and value is protected.

They're now looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join that team and work closely with the people delivering the projects.

The Role

Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you'll provide commercial support across live projects, working alongside Contract and Project Managers to keep financial and contractual matters under control.

• Support Contract and Project Managers with valuations, applications, variations and day-to-day commercial management.
• Monitor project costs against the original quoted figures, identifying discrepancies before they become bigger problems.
• Maintain accurate cost-value reconciliations, financial reports and commercial records across live contracts.
• Assist with procurement, pricing and agreeing costs with suppliers and subcontractors.
• Liaise with clients and the wider professional team, supporting meetings and commercial negotiations.
• Help bring projects through to final account, ensuring the right information is available and deadlines are met.

The Candidate

You'll already have experience within Quantity Surveying and understand the commercial side of construction. Experience within steel or specialist fabrication would be particularly relevant.

You'll need:

• Quantity Surveying experience within construction, ideally including structural steel.
• Experience working with NEC and JCT contracts.
• A relevant Quantity Surveying qualification.
• Good understanding of construction processes and how costs move through a live project.
• Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
• A methodical approach to financial and commercial information.
• Full UK driving licence.

Ideally:

• CSCS certification.
• Experience working within a rail environment or on rail-related projects.
