Job description

Randstad's client is a Main Contractor with a strong pipeline of commercial projects across the region. They are looking to add to their commercial team with an experienced Assistant Quantity Surveyor. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive individual looking to take the next step in their career, gaining more autonomy and responsibility on a variety of exciting projects.

Key Responsibilities: As an Experienced Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will play a crucial role in the financial management of our projects. Your day-to-day duties will include, but not be limited to:

• Assisting Senior Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Managers with all aspects of commercial management.
• Preparing valuations and payment applications.
• Measuring and valuing variations.
• Procuring and managing sub-contractor accounts, including payments and final accounts.
• Assisting with cost control and forecasting.
• Preparing and analysing cost reports.
• Attending site meetings and liaising with project teams, clients, and sub-contractors.
• Providing contractual advice where necessary.
• Contributing to the preparation of tenders and bids.
• Managing your own smaller projects or specific work packages under supervision, demonstrating your ability to work independently.

About You: The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and organised individual with:

• A degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline.
• Proven experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, working for a Main Contractor would be preferential.
• Demonstrable experience of independently managing smaller projects or significant work packages from inception to final account.
• A solid understanding of construction contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC).
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., MS Excel, project management software).
• A full UK driving license and willingness to travel to various sites across the North East.
• A proactive attitude and a desire to take ownership of tasks and projects.
