Assistant Quantity Surveyor – Civil Engineering / Environment Framework

We’re looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a leading contractor delivering works on long-term civil engineering and environmental frameworks, including projects for the Environment Agency. This is a great opportunity for someone who’s motivated to build a career in commercial management while gaining hands-on experience across key infrastructure and environmental resilience projects.

The Role

Reporting to senior commercial staff, you’ll support on all aspects of the commercial function, from procurement and subcontract management through to valuations, reporting and final accounts. You’ll be working across flood defence, river works, coastal protection and wider civil engineering schemes that help protect communities and the environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with procurement and subcontractor management
  • Supporting the production of valuations, cost reports and cash flow forecasts
  • Maintaining accurate records of site activities and subcontract works
  • Preparing subcontract payment notices in line with regulations
  • Supporting monthly reporting and cost tracking
  • Helping settle subcontract accounts and assisting in project closeout
  • Ensuring compliance with contractual, health & safety and environmental standards

About You

  • Ideally undertaking or recently completed a QS-related degree (RICS, CIOB or ICES accredited)
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with good attention to detail
  • Excellent communicator, proactive and able to work as part of a team
  • Motivated to progress towards chartership and a long-term commercial career
  • Interest in civil engineering, environmental works and sustainable construction
