Job summary

NG Bailey Group Limited in Bradford is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our Oakenshaw Offsite Manufacturing team. You will support the commercial function, assisting with applications for payment, cost control, variations, and reporting.

Working with experienced surveyors and operations, you’ll gain exposure to diverse commercial activities within offsite manufacturing and MEP project delivery, while developing your professional skills.

Qualifications

• Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills required.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities expected.
• Experience with subcontractor management or change management would be beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Promote and support a safety-first culture across all activities.
• Assist in ensuring compliance with legal requirements, policies and contractual obligations.
• Support the commercial team in understanding contract terms, risks and opportunities and maintaining records.
• Assist with the management and maintenance of commercial documentation to maximise entitlements.
• Liaise with operational teams to understand project progress and commercial status.
• Support preparation and submission of payment applications, variations and compensation events.
• Assist with management of subcontractor accounts, valuations and final accounts.
• Monitor project costs and progress, aiding accurate reporting and forecasting.
• Maintain project records including applications, certificates and payments.
• Assist with client and subcontractor communications to support commercial outcomes.

Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our Offsite Manufacturing team based at our Oakenshaw facility in Bradford.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual looking to develop their commercial career within a fast-paced and innovative offsite manufacturing environment. Supporting the commercial team, you will assist in the commercial management of projects, helping to maximise profitability through timely applications for payment, effective cost control, agreement of variations, and accurate reporting.

Working closely with experienced Quantity Surveyors and operational teams, you'll gain exposure to a wide range of commercial activities while building your knowledge of offsite manufacturing and MEP project delivery.

Responsibilities

• Assist in ensuring compliance with legal requirements, company policies, procedures, and contractual obligations.
• Support the commercial team in understanding project contract terms, identifying risks and opportunities, and maintaining associated records.
• Assist with the management and maintenance of commercial documentation to maximise contractual entitlements.
• Liaise with operational and manufacturing teams to develop an understanding of project progress and commercial status.
• Support the preparation and submission of applications for payment, variations, and compensation events.
• Assist with the management of subcontractor accounts, including valuations and final account processes.

Requirements

• Previous experience in an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Assistant, Graduate Quantity Surveyor, or similar role would be advantageous.
• Degree, HNC/HND qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline, or currently working towards one.
• Strong numerical, analytical, and organisational skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
• Experience of subcontractor management or change management would be beneficial.
• Knowledge of NEC contracts is desirable.
• Knowledge or exposure to Mechanical & Electrical (MEP) projects would be beneficial but is not essential.
• An interest in offsite manufacturing, modern methods of construction, or building services engineering would be advantageous.
