Job summary

Linear Recruitment Ltd is seeking an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join the commercial team on a major construction project in the Newcastle area. You will support the commercial management, work with the Quantity Surveyor and project team to track costs and contracts, and contribute to value reporting.

Ideal candidates will have a degree in Quantity Surveying or related field, experience in construction, strong numerical skills, and a proactive approach to learning.

Qualifications

• Degree/HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or related discipline.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Good communication and negotiation abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with the preparation and management of project budgets and cost forecasts.
• Supporting the preparation and submission of interim valuations and payment applications.
• Assisting with subcontract procurement, tender analysis and package management.
• Monitoring project costs, variations and change control.
• Assisting with the preparation and agreement of subcontractor accounts.
• Reviewing subcontractor applications, variations and supporting documentation.
• Maintaining accurate commercial records and cost reports.
• Supporting the Quantity Surveyor with monthly reporting and forecasting.
• Assisting with the management of commercial risks and opportunities.

The Role

As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial management of the project, working closely with the Quantity Surveyor and wider project team to ensure costs, contracts, and commercial performance are effectively managed.

Your responsibilities will include:

About You

We are looking for someone who is commercially aware, organised and keen to develop their career within the construction industry.

Ideally, you will have:

• Experience in an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Graduate Quantity Surveyor role.
• A degree/HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
• Experience within the construction or civil engineering sector.
• Good understanding of construction contracts and commercial principles.
• Strong numerical and analytical skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Good communication and negotiation abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• A proactive approach and willingness to learn.
