Job summary

C&P Recruitment is seeking an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established contractor in the Aberdeen area. You will support commercial management on building and infrastructure projects from tender through final account, gaining hands-on site experience and working with senior commercial staff.

Ideal candidates have 1–3 years of construction commercial experience, a qualification in Quantity Surveying (HNC/HND/degree), and a practical mindset for cost control,

Qualifications

• Qualification ideally holds an HNC, HND, or degree in Quantity Surveying.
• 1–3 years of experience in a construction commercial environment.
• Live construction site exposure is highly advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Prepare bills of quantities and schedules for pricing.
• Deal with tender stage subcontract and material enquiries.
• Assist with subcontract procurement, agreement, payment processing, and final awards.
• Attend, contribute to, and take minutes for project and commercial meetings.
• Prepare valuations alongside clients, agreeing payment amounts and issuing invoices.
• Re-measure work using on-site measurements and drawings.
• Inform sub-contractors of contract variations and help manage accounts.
• Assist with cost planning and CVRs.
• Agree final accounts for clients and sub-contractors.

Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Location: Aberdeen

Salary: £37,500 to £58,000 (dependant on experience)

C&P Recruitment is currently recruiting for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established contractor working across a range of building and infrastructure projects in the Aberdeen area.

Key Responsibilities

As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial management of projects from tender stage through to the final account. Your duties will include:

• Preparing bills of quantities and schedules of works for pricing projects.
• Dealing with tender stage subcontract and material enquiries.
• Assisting with subcontract procurement, agreement, payment processing, and final awards.
• Attending, contributing to, and taking minutes for project and commercial meetings.
• Preparing valuations alongside clients, agreeing payment amounts, and ensuring accurate invoices are issued.
• Re-measuring work utilizing both on-site physical measurements and project drawings.
• Informing sub-contractors of contract variations and helping manage subcontractor accounts.
• Dealing with contractual issues from a proactive commercial perspective.
• Providing cost advice to Design Consultants and supporting overall cost planning.
• Assisting with financial reporting via monthly cost/value reconciliations (CVRs).
• Agreeing final accounts for both clients and sub-contractors.

About You

• Qualification: Ideally hold an HNC, HND, or degree in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline (equivalent practical industry experience will also be considered).
• Experience: Ideally 1-3 years of experience working within a construction commercial environment (e.g., as a Trainee, Commercial Assistant, or Assistant QS). Live construction site exposure is highly advantageous.
• Technical Skills: A good understanding of basic budget management, analytical problem-solving, and building measurement. Basic knowledge of standard construction contracts (such as JCT) is beneficial.
• Soft Skills: Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with an ability to manage competing priorities in a busy team environment.
