Job summary

CSS is seeking an ambitious Assistant Quality Manager to join its growing manufacturing operation in the timber/joinery sector. You will work closely with the Quality Manager to develop the Quality department, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and uphold the highest quality standards across the business.

This is a hands-on role split roughly 70% office and 30% factory floor, with a Monday–Friday schedule and a salary band of £35,000–£40,000.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Quality Assistant or Quality Coordinator in manufacturing.
  • Experience in timber, joinery, or woodworking industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of ISO Quality Management Systems; Lean experience advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Quality Manager in day-to-day management and development of the Quality department.
  • Investigate customer complaints from initial report through root cause analysis, corrective actions, and resolution.
  • Monitor quality performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Lead and support Lean Manufacturing and process improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain and manage the company's ISO Quality Management System.
  • Work closely with production teams to improve quality, reduce defects, and enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Visit customer sites when required to investigate quality concerns (no overnight stays).

Permanent | £35,000 - £40,000 per annum

7:00am - 4:00pm or 8:00am - 4:30pm

Key Responsibilities

About You

We're looking for someone who is proactive, hands-on, and eager to develop their career within quality management.

You'll ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a Quality Assistant, Quality Coordinator, or similar manufacturing quality role.
  • Experience within the timber, joinery, or woodworking industry (preferred).
  • Good knowledge of ISO Quality Management Systems.
  • Experience supporting or implementing Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement projects.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate quality issues and implement effective solutions.
  • A hands-on approach, enjoying a role split between approximately 70% office and 30% factory floor.
