Job summary

Bob and Berts Coleraine is seeking an experienced Assistant Manager to support the Store Manager in day-to-day operations of our coffee shop. You will lead a team of baristas, ensure excellent customer service, manage stock, and help maintain product quality.

The role requires hands-on leadership, strong communication, and the ability to train staff, schedule shifts, and drive sales while upholding health and safety standards. Flexible early-morning and weekend availability is essential.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in a supervisory/management role within hospitality (coffee shop/cafe preferred).
• Hands-on espresso brewing, milk steaming, and latte art knowledge.
• Strong leadership with ability to train and mentor staff.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
• Right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Supervise baristas and staff during shifts, ensuring high service standards.
• Train new hires on barista skills, POS systems, and shop policies.
• Motivate and coach team to maintain performance and morale.
• Assist manager in creating staff schedules and ensuring coverage during peak hours.
• Manage daily opening/closing procedures and maintain cleanliness and presentation.
• Monitor stock levels, place supplier orders, and conduct regular counts.
• Ensure coffee machines and equipment are properly maintained and compliant with safety standards.
• Oversee cash handling, till balancing, and daily banking.

Eligibility: This position is open to applicants aged 18 or over because the advertised shift pattern and adult-only duties cannot be assigned to a young worker. Previous relevant counter experience is essential.

Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate, experienced, and highly motivatedAssistant Managerto join our team. Working closely with the Store Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of our coffee shop, driving team performance, and providing exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader with a love for coffee culture, excellent communication skills, and the ability to train staff and manage inventory effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Training

• Supervise Staff:Lead baristas and staff during shifts, ensuring high standards of customer service and product quality.


• Training & Development:Train new hires on barista skills, coffee preparation, POS systems, and shop policies.


• Motivate & Coach:Foster a positive work environment, providing ongoing feedback and coaching to team members.


• Scheduling:Assist the manager in creating staff schedules and ensuring adequate coverage, particularly during peak hours.

Operational Management

• Day-to-Day Operations:Manage daily opening/closing procedures and ensure the store is clean, well‑presented, and fully operational.


• Inventory Management:Monitor stock levels, place supplier orders, and conduct regular inventory counts to minimize waste.


• Equipment Maintenance:Ensure coffee machines, grinders, and other equipment are maintained and serviced as needed.


• Safety Compliance:Uphold all health, safety, and hygiene standards.

Customer Service & Sales

• Customer Excellence:Build relationships with customers and resolve complaints or concerns promptly.


• Driving Sales:Implement marketing initiatives, promote special offers, and drive sales targets.


• Product Knowledge:Maintain expert knowledge of our coffee, tea, and food menu to make recommendations.

Financial & Administrative Tasks

• Cash Handling:Oversee cash management, till balancing, and daily bank deposits.


• Financial Reporting:Assist with reporting on daily sales and KPIs, helping to manage labour costs and expenses.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience:2+ years of experience in a supervisory or management role within the hospitality industry (coffee shop/cafe preferred).


• Barista Skills:Strong hands‑on knowledge of espresso brewing, milk steaming, and latte art.


• Leadership:Proven capability to lead, motivate, and mentor a diverse team.


• Communication:Excellent verbal and written communication skills.


• Flexibility:Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.


• Physical Strength:Capable of standing for long periods and lifting heavy items (e.g., milk crates, coffee bags).
