About The Role
Job Overview
The Assistant Headteacher will be a key leadership role within our school, supporting the Headteacher in the strategic management of the school and leading on a variety of operational and educational responsibilities. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the best possible outcomes for our students, particularly in creating a supportive, inclusive environment that fosters individual growth and promotes independence. There will be a part-teaching commitment of up to 40% of the timetable to support understanding of pupil needs and team support. This role involves working closely with staff, parents, external agencies, and stakeholders to promote excellence and continuous improvement.
Job Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
- Support the Headteacher in the day-to-day leadership and management of the school.
- Lead and support staff in their professional development, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to create and implement the school's strategic vision, ensuring it meets the needs of students with additional learning needs.
- Assist in developing and monitoring school policies and procedures to ensure compliance with educational standards and best practices.
- Lead on initiatives that enhance education and care quality, aligning with the school's ethos and objectives.
Curriculum & Learning
- Support the development and implementation of a curriculum tailored for children with PMLD.
- Monitor and evaluate teaching and learning practices to maintain high standards.
- Lead and support teachers in implementing individualized educational plans (IEPs), ensuring accessible and engaging learning.
- Collaborate with external professionals and agencies to support holistic student development.
Student Well-being And Safeguarding
- Promote student welfare and safeguarding, ensuring a safe, supportive environment.
- Advocate for pupils' needs and support them creatively.
- Manage student behaviour effectively, modelling positive support and fostering community.
Staff Development And Support
- Support staff recruitment, induction, and ongoing development.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to develop best practices in working with children with additional needs.
- Implement regular feedback and performance management systems for all staff.
Communication & Partnership
- Build and maintain relationships with parents and carers, involving them in their child's learning and well-being.
- Communicate effectively with external agencies and stakeholders to support student development.
- Represent the school at meetings, conferences, and events.
School Improvement & Monitoring
- Assist in setting and reviewing the school improvement plan with clear, measurable goals.
- Contribute to self-evaluation and initiatives for school effectiveness.
- Use data to monitor progress and support student development.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
- Degree-level education qualification or higher.
- GCSE Maths and English (A-C) or equivalent.
- Experience teaching in a PMLD environment.
- Experience leading projects or school initiatives.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
- Proficient in ICT for managing learning.
- Knowledge of relevant policies, legislation, and frameworks such as Routes for Learning, Foundation Phase, and ALN pedagogy.
