Job summary

Stagecoach is seeking a hands-on, people-focused Assistant Engineering Manager for our Chesterfield depot on a 12-month fixed-term basis, covering a period of maternity leave. You’ll support a fleet of over 80 vehicles across Derbyshire, ensuring the fleet is clean, safe and road-ready.

Based at Chesterfield Depot, you’ll lead a small workshop, develop the team, schedule maintenance, and promote health and safety, with opportunities to contribute to depot infrastructure and the introduction of

Qualifications

• Relevant engineering experience, including mechanical, electrical and bodywork knowledge.
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in relevant engineering field (mechanical or automotive).
• Experience managing or supervising a workshop or technical team, and a strong understanding of PCV operations.
• Strong understanding of health and safety practices and regulatory standards.
• A people-centred approach to leadership, with strong communication and influencing skills.
• Ability to plan, analyse, and make confident decisions in a dynamic environment.

As Assistant Engineering Manager, you’ll play a central role in ensuring our fleet is clean, safe, and road‑ready, while supporting the ongoing development of the workshop as our fleet evolves, including the introduction of electric vehicles and associated depot infrastructure.

What you’ll be doing
